LANARK COUNTY OPP DETACHMENT WEEKLY NEWS

(April 5-12, 2021)

(LANARK COUNTY, ON) – Between Monday, April 5 and Monday, April 12, 2021, officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 389 calls for service.

The calls included:

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Total: 27    Including:

Parking Lots: 7

Single Motor Vehicle off Road (“in ditch”): 5

Impaired Drivers – 1

Lanark County OPP were called to Highway 43 in Drummond North-Elmsley Township just before 8:00 P.M. on April 8, 2021, regarding a single vehicle rollover.  Officers attended along with Lanark County Paramedics attended the location.  The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest and charge of Impaired Driving for Nicholas WALSH, age 26, of Smiths Falls, Ontario.  The accused was transported to hospital for minor injuries and released from custody on an Appearance Notice for a scheduled court date of May 3, 2021 at the Perth Ontario Court of Justice.

Domestic Incidents – 5

A 26 year old victim called 9-1-1 after her ex-boyfriend attended her residence in Drummond North-Elmsley Township on April 5, 2021, just after 11:00 P.M., smashed his way inside and assaulted the victim.  The victim sustained minor injuries from the assault and the male, who fled the scene was located a short time later with the assistance of the OPP Canine and Emergency Response Units.  The 25 year old accused, a resident of Ottawa, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following:

• Domestic Assault contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code
• Break and Enter (dwelling house) contrary to Section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Two counts of Mischief contrary to Section 430(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused was held pending a bail hearing the following morning, April 6, 2021.

Lanark County OPP wish to remind residents to “lock it or lose it” as there have been a rash of thefts from vehicles occurring during the overnight hours between April 5-12, 2021; several on Georgina Street in Drummond North-Elmsley Township and several on Hwy. 511 in Tay Valley Township.  Please, keep valuables out of sight and don’t leave wallets, purses or other items in your vehicle unattended.  It only takes a few seconds for would-be-thieves to go into an unlocked vehicle.  Locked vehicles are more work and most times are passed by in preference for easy targets; unlocked vehicles.
